About The Founder

Adapt360 is owned and operated by Paul Smith. Paul graduated in 1989 with a Mechanical Engineering degree (BSME) from the University of California, San Diego. As a Product Development Engineer for Bioject Medical Technologies, Inc. (Portland, OR), Paul co-invented the "The Biojector® 2000" Needle-Free Jet Injection System (US patents 5,383,851       5,399,163       5,520,639). Paul then joined EndoMedix, formerly Baxter Healthcare's Technology and Ventures Division (Irvine, CA) as a Manufacturing Engineer for medical endoscopes and ultrasound devices.

SSI Robotics and SimmPro In 1996, Paul founded SimmPro (an automated test handler, electrical and mechanical engineering company) followed in 2001 by SSI Robotics (a robotics company focused on biotechnology and clinical lab process automation). Paul led his teams in the product development, manufacture, marketing, website development, Internet marketing, tradeshow promotion, global distribution, sales and support of several innovative products sold throughout North America, Europe and Asia. The firms patented three products (US Patents 5,704,489       5,954,205       6,218,852). SimmPro quickly became the world leader in its narrow niche market for memory board test handlers, with 400 machines sold in the first five years. In 2000, the “dot com” crash forced the company to seek new markets.

Paul’s company was able to “adapt” to new business realities, turn perceived threats into new opportunities and “morph” the firm into a medical and laboratory equipment manufacturer marketed as SSI Robotics. Internet Marketing was the primary means of lead generation. This Internet Marketing effort led to capital equipment sales to Pfizer (pharmaceuticals), 3M (dental), Medtronic (medical device), Avery Dennison, Boeing, Corning, Cardinal Health (medical device), Invitrogen (biotechnology) and other Fortune 500s. After development of its MINILAB, FLASH and patent pending MINIFLASH Lab Automation products, the company was sold to PAR Systems, a $200million/yr automation firm. Paul continued with PaR as the General Manager for Life Science Automation, leading the biotechnology and clinical laboratory automation effort prior to launching Adapt360 in February 2008.

Southern California Consultants - Based in Orange County, CA, Paul and his Adapt360 team now apply their skills to help corporate clients “adapt” and flourish in the global business environment.
